Brand New Filming Pictures: Benedict Cumberbatch filming for ‘The Hollow Crown’ as Richard iii in Wells Cathedral - Taken from this great video (x) Other filming pictures here: (x) (x) (x)

Looks like it could be the coronation scene as Ben is kneeling at the beginning & has help to stand up & get onto the throne.

And no wig! The short hair does make him look younger, so possibly it was for these early scenes & the wig will be for the scenes later in his life.

Judi Dench tells her version of Benedict Cumberbatch's "shocking" Richard III proposal

cumbertrekky:

Judi Dench is a busy lady, appearing at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on Sunday before being whisked off to Cardiff to continue filming on Richard III, one of three new Hollow Crown films being made by BBC2.

But the actress’s role in the Shakespeare adaptation is all thanks to her appearance at another festival earlier this year. Dench, 79, was in conversation with Richard Eyre at Hay Festival last June when Benedict Cumberbatch put her on the spot

"It’s a shocking story," recalls Dench. "We were doing Hay and I was instructing – I had to do the bits of Shakespeare that I remembered – and so I said to [Richard], ‘You have to say three lines of this.’ I was rehearsing and then Cumberbatch said ‘I’ll do that for you’.

"So he leapt up on stage to enormous applause and did these three lines and then went and sat down again and Richard said, ‘Any questions?’ and there was one question and Ben Cumberbatch turned to my friend David next door to him and said, ‘Shall I ask her?’ David said ‘Yes’ and [Cumberbatch] said, ‘Are you going to play my mother in Richard III?’

"It’s a very good way of being asked to do a part. You don’t mess about, you don’t spend ages dithering about it. When somebody asks you, say yes or no and I said yes."

Dench is playing Cecily, Duchess of York, alongside Cumberbatch’s Richard III, with Keeley Hawes, Sophie Okonedo and Ben Daniels also set to appear in the third of three films, all directed by Dominic Cooke and expected to be broadcast on BBC2 next year.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch swaps Baker Street for the battlefield to play King Richard III

The Sherlock star will star as Britain’s most controversial monarch Richard III in The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch swaps Baker Street for the battlefield as he plays doomed hunchback King Richard III in a thrilling new big-budget BBC2 Shakespeare adaptation.

The dashing actor ditches the deerstalker and pipe and replaces it with a golden crown and sword to play Britain’s most controversial monarch in The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses.

Giving up his Marylebone pad for a marshy filed, Cumberbatch filmed dramatic scenes from the Battle of Bosworth, the last significant clash in the 15th century civil war which tore England apart. Shooting took place last week in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.

He has a spring in his stride as he charges across the bloody battlefield with rage etched on his face.

However it all ends badly with the broken, disfigured king forlornly wandering around the blood soaked field pleading: “A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!”

The Game of Thrones-style drama, which is set to be screened on BBC2 in 2016, also stars Dame Judi Dench, Sophie Okonedo, Hugh Bonneville, Keeley Hawes and Philip Glenister.

It reunites posh Cumberbatch, 38, with his Sherlock nemesis Andrew Scott, who played Moriarty.

The Hollow Crown is based on William Shakespeare’s History Plays and is one of the BBC’s flagship dramas.

This series follows on from the 2012 Bafta award winning The Hollow Crown, which starred Ben Wishaw, Jeremy Irons and Tom Hiddleston and was an adaptation of Richard II, Henry IV, Part I and Henry IV Part II (treated as one film in two parts in the series) and Henry V.

The second series includes Henry VI (in two parts) and Richard III.

Last week dashing Cumberbatch graced the red carpet with Keira Knightly for the opening of the BFI London Film Festival.

The pair star in The Imitation Game, a wartime drama about codebreaker and computer pioneer Alan Turing.

Cumberbatch is already being tipped for a string of award nominations. If he is, it certainly won’t be a winter of discontent.

Alan Turing: The Enigma: The Book That Inspired the Film The Imitation Game

To list or not to list. That is the question….

I’m reading it too! And definitely list it! Wasn’t Benedict spotted reading a Turing bio… but I think it was a shorter one? Do you remember, goflysomeplane?

Benedict was spotted on the Underground reading Jack Copeland’s biography on Turing, titled Turing: Pioneer of the Information Age. In a recent interview, however, Benedict mentioned Copeland, Hodges, and Leavitt, who wrote The Man Who Knew Too Much: Alan Turing and the Invention of the Computer.

There we have it folks! As bennysbookclub predicted, he has read all the Turing bios!

He’s definitely research boy!

THIS is (Part 1) of an audio book/play of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. I had to read it for school, though I found it hard to comprehend at first, but reading it along with this made it better.

Mainly because Benedict Cumberbatch reads the lead romance ‘Ferdinand’.

How have I missed this??

Radio Times just posted some pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch Filming The Hollow crown as Richard iii (x)

If he’s got a wig on, then why did he cut his hair last week just as he was getting the Sherlock curls back? Very confusing indeed!!?
